In the haulage sector, where every kilogram and every litre of fuel can make a difference to operating margins, Scania revealed on 20 May 2025 a new 11-litre diesel engine for its Super range of industrial vehicles. This engine is designed to meet the needs of operators working in areas where payload is critical – such as high-volume transport, postal services or fuel distribution – while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and cost control.
With outputs of 350, 390 and 430 horsepower and a peak torque of up to 2,200 Nm, the Super 11 complies fully with Euro IV, V and VI standards and positions itself as the missing link between Scania’s 9- and 13-litre engines. But the real innovation lies in its fuel efficiency: Scania claims savings of up to 7% compared to the current 9-litre model, along with a weight reduction of 85 kg compared to the Super 13.
One of the engine’s key strengths is the 85% component commonality with the Super 13, which facilitates optimised maintenance and a seamless transition for operators already using the Super range. When used with LDF-5 engine oil, maintenance intervals can be extended by up to 30%, contributing to overall fleet efficiency.
Behind the Super 11 lies significant development work that has led to the integration of advanced technologies. A standout feature is the cam phaser system, which adjusts valve timing in real time to improve combustion and thermal management. The engine also includes balance shafts for smoother driving, a Variable Valve Brake auxiliary retarder rated at 344 kW, and a new engine management software.
The Super 11 was conceived from the outset to support a more sustainable approach to transport. It is compatible with renewable fuels such as HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) and FAME (fatty acid methyl esters), allowing operators to lower their environmental impact without modifying existing infrastructure. In addition, the patented Turbo Dosing system for AdBlue injection ensures more efficient evaporation and use of the reductant, benefiting both emissions and fuel consumption.
The new Super 11 will be available on the market from June 2025. According to Ayyoob Zarmehri, Scania’s Product Manager, this engine opens new opportunities for energy-efficient transport and lower operating costs. It is lightweight, compact and versatile, while retaining the strength and reliability for which Scania is renowned.
