At the beginning of October 2025, Rhenus Logistics inaugurated a new logistics platform in Riano, north of Rome, consolidating its strategic position in the Italian market. The opening of Riano 2 marks an important step in the company’s plan to expand its national network, aiming to move beyond its concentration of activities in the North and to improve operational coverage towards Southern Italy.
The new facility complements the existing Riano 1 site, overcoming capacity constraints and providing greater flexibility in operations. The investment allows Rhenus to move from third-party management to direct control of logistics activities in the area, enhancing efficiency, delivery times and service quality. This is a significant move in a region where suitable warehouse space remains limited.
Riano 2 spans over 5,600 square metres, with a clear height of 12 metres, 59 loading bays and an initial storage capacity of 3,000 pallets, expandable to 5,000. The main Riano 1 warehouse, by contrast, covers a total of 42,072 square metres with 98 loading bays and a capacity of 38,500 pallets. Both facilities operate in synergy to meet the diverse logistics needs of customers. Riano 2 is equipped with advanced packaging machinery for e-commerce operations, which require flexible and automated processes. The site also offers scalable solutions designed for start-ups and expanding companies, supported by technical and operational services.
According to the company, the expansion strengthens the Transport Related Warehousing product line, increasing available space for customers and boosting domestic distribution capacity. The new hub enables faster and more reliable deliveries, reinforcing Rhenus’s presence in the central and southern regions of the country.
