The second-level agreement, covering more than five thousand workers involved in last-mile deliveries for Amazon Italia Transport, was approved in July 2025 with 89.6% of votes in 160 local assemblies. The agreement introduces provisions on climate safety, reduced working hours, pay rises and a new model of employee involvement. It is part of a process that began in 2021 between Amazon and trade unions, when the multinational first recognised the role of unions and agreed to apply collective bargaining.
The July 2025 agreement builds upon that initial understanding and includes all companies affiliated with Assoespressi, which signed the deal on the employers' side, while the confederal trade unions signed on behalf of the workers. One of the key innovations is the introduction of specific measures to protect workers during adverse weather conditions. For the first time in a contract in this sector, it allows the suspension of delivery services in the event of dangerous weather, with particular reference to red alerts issued by the Civil Protection Department.
Another important change is the reduction in weekly working hours for drivers, from 43 to 42 hours, in line with the provisions of the renewed national collective agreement for Logistics, Freight Transport and Shipping. This measure aims to improve work-life balance and address excessive workloads that had become unsustainable in some situations. However, the reduction will come into effect from July 2027. The agreement itself will expire on 30 April 2028. Work on semi-public holidays will also become voluntary.
On the economic front, the agreement includes increased allowances for drivers and a higher performance-related bonus. An additional bonus will also be awarded for each year without vehicle damage. These financial improvements are in addition to the pay rises established under the national collective agreement, such as the €260 monthly increase for travelling personnel in level B3. In terms of employment safeguards, the deal introduces a social clause, while a new site safety representative role is also established. Assoespressi and the trade unions have expressed their satisfaction with the approval of the agreement.
