Electric truck for Volkswagen logistics
Duvenbeck, a specialist in automotive logistics, has introduced the first MAN electric truck for logistics operations at a Volkswagen plant, aiming for a zero-emission supply chain. By 2026, Duvenbeck plans to deploy up to 120 MAN electric trucks for use in the Rhine-Ruhr region and the Benelux area. This collaboration marks a significant step in the "Green Logistics" strategy, designed to reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency.
Thai Airways expands air cargo operations in India
Thai Airways has appointed Globe Air Cargo India as its GSSA for operations in Bangalore and Cochin from 1 September 2024. The partnership aims to enhance the airline's operational capacity in India, improving connectivity with Asia, Europe, and Australia. Globe Air Cargo India manages daily flights with A350-900 aircraft from Bangalore, offering a 15-tonne cargo capacity, and has increased Cochin flights to daily service, adding 2.5 tonnes per flight. This agreement covers four of Thai Airways' eight main hubs in India, handling over 40% of the country's exports, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, spices, and automotive components.
DP World targets India for logistics expansion
DP World has announced plans to expand its operations in India to tackle trade bottlenecks and reduce delivery times. The UAE-based terminal operator is also eyeing the Chinese market, which is rebounding from the pandemic thanks to economic stimulus policies. "In India, we are exploring additional industrial parks and logistics capacities," stated CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
New Dutch hydrogen trucks
With support from the Dutch government's SWIM programme, ten new hydrogen-powered trucks will be developed and deployed over the next three years. The vehicles, created by Delft-based zepp.solutions, will be built in collaboration with partners such as Teal, Green Planet Pesse, and Fountain Fuel. Based on Mercedes Actros diesel models, the trucks boast a range exceeding 700 km, making them suitable for heavy, long-distance transport. The SWIM budget, increased to €40 million for 2025, aims to incentivise hydrogen adoption in heavy transportation.
Ceva Logistics tests electric trucks in Asia
Ceva Logistics is trialling a long-range electric truck for cross-border transport in Asia. The vehicle, produced by Windrose, completed a 1,725-km journey with only three charging stops, carrying 10 tonnes of electronics on the outbound leg and 12 tonnes of tyres on the return. This pilot project, part of Ceva's Forplanet programme, aligns with the company's goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. It seeks to expand the electric truck network to connect China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Moselle river closed to traffic until spring 2025
A severe accident has halted river traffic on the Moselle after a cargo vessel struck a lock gate in Müden, completely tearing off the gate doors. The incident, which occurred at noon on Sunday, necessitates a full replacement of the damaged parts, potentially delaying operations until March 2025, according to the Mosel-Saar-Lahn Waterways and Shipping Authority. Around 70 ships are currently stranded along the river, unable to reach the Rhine. While no injuries were reported, the accident caused a hydraulic fluid spill, which was contained by firefighters. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the mishap.
