MAN Truck & Bus unveiled a new addition to its electric industrial vehicle range at Transpotec 2026. Called the MAN eTGM, it is designed to cover the mid-range urban and regional distribution segment, positioned between lighter electric vehicles and heavy-duty models. Its Italian debut took place during a press conference at the MAN stand, in an edition of the trade fair that gave the manufacturer the opportunity to link the launch of the new model with growth in the national market. The new model has a gross vehicle weight of 16.01 tonnes, with the option to reach 16.5 tonnes, and can achieve a gross combination weight of up to 33 tonnes. This configuration enables the German manufacturer to offer a complete electric range from 12 to 50 tonnes, based on a modular technology platform.
The new electric truck has been developed for medium-range distribution operations, with the applications identified by MAN including food logistics, deliveries to large-scale retail, municipal services, construction-related transport and regional distribution. Alongside electric drive, the cab has also been designed for urban operations with frequent stops, where ergonomics, quick access and integration with the bodywork affect service efficiency. It therefore features low entry and a reduced loading height.
MAN says the eTGM uses an electric powertrain designed to reduce energy consumption and recover energy during deceleration. Range can reach up to 480 kilometres, depending on the configuration selected, with a modular battery system comprising two to four packs. This allows the vehicle to be adapted to customers’ operational requirements and to balance payload, range and operating costs.
One aspect highlighted by the manufacturer concerns compatibility with bodywork. The interfaces were developed with the early involvement of bodybuilders, allowing standard bodies to be used without complex modifications. For distribution operators, this can affect the time needed to introduce the vehicle into fleets and the ability to use already established configurations, from refrigeration and municipal collection to vehicles for light construction.
The decision to present the model at Transpotec is also linked to the role assigned to Italy in the group’s strategy. Marc Martinez, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus Italia, noted that 2026 marks the fortieth anniversary of the manufacturer’s presence in Italy. From 1986 to 2025, units sold rose from around 400 to almost 4,700 vehicles, while over the same period the organisation grew from about 50 employees to more than 330, with a network of 82 service points and 10 MAN Centers across the country.
In the first three months of 2026, MAN Truck & Bus Italia’s turnover reached 133% of the level recorded in the same period of 2022. Between January and April 2026, in the truck sector, its market share stood at 10.9% in the segment above 6 tonnes and 11.7% in the segment above 16 tonnes. In the construction sector, MAN ranks as the second-largest brand nationally, a position also confirmed in the electric truck segment above 16 tonnes. The Italian market now accounts for about 10% of MAN’s European area, with turnover of €617 million in 2025.
