On 23 June 2025, Amazon confirmed that it will introduce five thousand electric vans from Mercedes-Benz into its European fleet over the coming months. These include the eSprinter and eVito models, manufactured in Germany and Spain, and customised by the German automaker to meet the operational needs of drivers and logistics partners. Enhancements include safety features, ergonomic improvements, and efficient package storage solutions such as bespoke shelving. Amazon states that its entire electric vehicle fleet will cover more than one hundred million kilometres by the end of 2025, delivering over 200 million parcels.
Earlier this year, Amazon announced an order of more than 200 electric eActros600 trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, intended for mid-range operations in the UK and Germany. These vehicles, capable of hauling 40-tonne trailers, will be integrated into the mid-range network and, once fully operational, will be able to transport over 350 million parcels annually. To support the initiative, Amazon will install high-powered charging points (up to 360 kW), capable of recharging batteries from 20 to 80 percent in just over an hour.
Fleet electrification goes hand in hand with the development of urban micromobility. Amazon has already launched over 60 hubs in more than 45 European cities, enabling zero-emission deliveries using cargo bikes, electric scooters and even on foot. In Italy, the new cities joining the network are Florence, Rome and Trento, alongside Naples, Genoa, Milan and Bologna. The company says the integration of light vehicles with urban hubs is one of the most effective strategies for tackling last-mile logistics challenges, improving sustainability, accessibility and delivery punctuality.
