The last-mile distribution network of courier company Sda, controlled by Poste Italiane, has gained a new node in the province of Rome since early February 2025. On 3 February, property developer Prologis announced it had delivered a building to the transport company in Castelnuovo di Porto, along the via Tiberina leading to the capital. The logistics platform extends over an area of 27,000 square metres, with 7,750 covered and the remainder dedicated to manoeuvring yards, parking and green spaces.
Designed to achieve Leed Gold certification, the building has been constructed using sustainable materials, including facades with vertical greenery and a green roof, thus reducing environmental impact and improving energy efficiency. The warehouse is equipped with advanced technologies such as high-efficiency heat pumps and an intelligent energy management system (Building Management System), which reduces energy consumption and emissions. In addition to the storage area, 720 square metres are reserved for offices and social spaces.
The external area has been designed with particular attention to sustainable mobility and resource management. Extensive parking areas have been created and eighteen charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed, thus supporting the electrification of the fleet intended for mail and parcel delivery. Furthermore, the green area has been enhanced with the planting of two hundred trees and the construction of a rainwater collection tank, contributing to the protection of water resources. "This project is a concrete example of our transformation from a simple property operator to an end-to-end logistics solutions provider", explains Sandro Innocenti, senior vice president and Regional Head Southern Europe of Prologis. The company specifies that the new platform was completed in just ten months.
