Volvo surpasses 5,000 electric trucks sold worldwide
Volvo Trucks has reached a major milestone, delivering over 5,000 battery electric trucks across 50 countries. Since 2019, these vehicles have collectively travelled nearly 170 million kilometres, contributing to reductions in CO2 emissions and urban noise. The company currently offers eight electric models for urban distribution, regional transport, construction and waste management. Key markets include Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Norway and Sweden. Volvo also highlights the benefits for drivers, who enjoy a quieter and more comfortable driving environment.
Increase in limited companies in the Italian road haulage sector
The share of limited companies in Italian road haulage continues to grow, rising from 22% in the first half of 2018 to 34% in the second half of 2024, according to the research department of Confcommercio. The number of active companies has increased to 23,525, up from 17,970 in 2018. Artisan firms, often operating a single vehicle, are turning to network contracts to remain competitive. According to the national road haulage register, in 2024 the number of single-vehicle companies declined by 1.95%, though they still represent a significant share (21,912). Larger firms, particularly those with more than 100 vehicles, are on the rise, with a 3% increase.
A15 Parma-La Spezia equipped with 11 smart cameras in Cucchero Nord tunnel
Anas has completed the installation of 11 new artificial intelligence-enabled cameras in the Cucchero Nord tunnel on the A15 Parma-La Spezia motorway, between the Pontremoli and Berceto toll booths heading towards Parma. The upgrade is part of Salt’s technological modernisation plan, bringing the total number of smart cameras in four tunnels to 54. Developed with Sinelec and Flir, the devices automatically detect dangerous situations and trigger safety measures in real time. Further installations are scheduled for 2025 and 2026, aiming to improve safety and reduce response times.
time:matters opens new offices in Malaysia and Thailand
time:matters is strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia with new offices in Penang (Malaysia) and Bangkok (Thailand). In Penang, operations will be led by Simon Ting Seng Kong, who brings over 25 years of industry experience. In Thailand, Sebastian May, already part of the APAC team, will assume the role of general manager from 1 June. The new offices will provide services to the high-tech, semiconductor, automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors, expanding access to key markets in the region.
Rhenus strengthens its presence in Latin America
The Rhenus Group has formalised the rebranding of Blu Logistics Latam to Rhenus Logistics, further consolidating its position in Latin America. The move follows the 2023 acquisition and covers Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay. The rebranding brings the group’s operations in the region under a unified identity. In 2024, it handled more than 210,000 TEUs, a 16.67% increase on the previous year. Rhenus, already active in Brazil, Chile and other countries, has recently opened a new office in Belo Horizonte.
