The "prolific" Fhp Group inaugurated two new covered areas in the port of Livorno on 28 May 2026, built after the demolition and conversion of a warehouse and a cement works dating back to the last century. The facilities provide more than 17,000 square metres of space, measuring 245 metres in length, 45 metres in width and 12 metres in height, for the storage of forest products, paper and cellulose handled by Fhp MarterNeri on behalf of producers serving the European paper industry, operating in 11 countries worldwide. Fhp MarterNeri was established in 2020 with Fhp’s acquisition of MarterNeri. Fhp is in turn part of F2i Sgr, one of Italy’s leading investment funds.
The facility required an investment of €23 million and will have reduced operating costs thanks to photovoltaic systems installed on the roofs, which will generate more than 1 MW of renewable energy. It will help increase the total capacity of the port of Livorno by around 100,000 to 150,000 tonnes a year, as noted by Davide Gariglio, president of the Autorità di Sistema Portuale (Port System Authority): "MarterNeri is an important and well-established company in our port, generating significant benefits not only within the port but also outside it, for the city." He added that "the Port Authority is grateful for the confidence the company has placed not only in its own workforce but also in the entire port system." Giorgio Neri, executive chairman of MarterNeri, welcomed the praise and recalled that "in supporting and promoting competition with other ports, attention to quality and safety at work has never been lacking."
The hosts also underlined the company’s ties with the city and Fhp’s development path. Umberto Masucci, chairman of the Group, credited Livorno with "the ability to have brilliantly combined growth in passenger traffic with growth in bulk cargo, making it a truly multipurpose port and one of the most efficient in Italy", while Paolo Cornetto, CEO of Fhp, recalled the 18 years that led F2i to invest in Fhp, as well as the wide range of initiatives and sectors in which the company has developed. The Group has also invested in "maritime, rail, terminal and energy activities", handling, among other cargoes, forest products, non-ferrous metals, agri-food products, chemicals, stone products and construction materials. Cornetto said that "we operate across the entire operational cycle: from receiving ships to storage and distribution to the final destination, covering six million kilometres by rail nationally and internationally each year in the service of key industrial supply chains." He concluded by saying that "we invest in new technologies, especially efficiency and digitalisation, but it is on ‘how we work’ that we focus great attention in order to guarantee quality and safety for our more than one thousand employees." In 2025, Fhp Group recorded turnover of €300 million and is a participant in the United Nations Global Compact.
