Schmitz Cargobull presented Cargobull Operating System (Cos) in June 2026, a new digital ecosystem that turns the semi-trailer into a connected software platform. The German manufacturer aims to integrate telematics, artificial intelligence and remote diagnostics into a single architecture, with the goal of improving operational efficiency, safety and vehicle availability within the logistics chain. The system brings together sensors, electronic control units and telematics in a single software architecture that connects the trailer to the cloud. The TrailerConnect platform, fitted as standard on the manufacturer’s semi-trailers, allows operators to monitor in real time the vehicle’s location, cargo compartment temperature, tyre pressure, brake status and operation of the refrigeration unit, as well as many other operating parameters.
The core element of the update is artificial intelligence. Algorithms continuously analyse data collected from semi-trailers to identify anomalies and signs of possible faults, allowing maintenance work to be planned before a vehicle is taken out of service. Schmitz Cargobull says this predictive approach increases vehicle availability and helps reduce fleets’ total cost of ownership. Through the TrailerConnect FleetTrack portal, fleet managers have an overall view of vehicle status. FleetWatch, meanwhile, introduces proactive monitoring of refrigeration units and other electronic components on the semi-trailer, promptly flagging detected issues and suggesting the relevant corrective actions.
To support its technical service network, the manufacturer has also developed Cargobull Trailer Diagnostics. The new software guides technicians through fault detection, makes error codes available and enables numerous updates to be installed directly over the air, without the vehicle necessarily having to stop at a workshop. Completing the ecosystem is the Data Management Center, which collects and integrates data from mixed fleets, including semi-trailers from several manufacturers. It is joined by TourTrack, a tool that makes it possible to digitally document every stage of transport, from loading through to delivery, bringing together the information collected by the platform’s other modules.
