Italian group Brivio & Viganò announced on 30 September 2025 the acquisition of Gima Trans, a haulier that has been providing services to large-scale retail and industry for over three decades. The deal aims to integrate the expertise and infrastructure of the two companies, while Gima Trans’s entry into the Lombardy-based group will extend territorial coverage and increase overall operational capacity, consolidating its position in a market increasingly driven by demand for integrated solutions. The acquired company will retain its brand and internal structure, operating as an autonomous division within the group.
Gima Trans was founded in 1993 by Luigi Zuccali and Mario Quarti, following an initial venture in 1989 with the purchase of their first truck. The company has since grown steadily: in 1995 it exceeded €1 million in turnover, in 2000 it entered the frozen transport segment, in 2005 it opened its Pozzo d’Adda site, in 2015 its fleet surpassed 150 vehicles, in 2019 all refrigerated transport was converted to low environmental impact solutions, and in 2022 it inaugurated its Cortenuova site. The generational transition saw Stefano Quarti, son of Mario, become chief executive in 2018 after gaining experience in all key operational functions, while Simona Zuccali, daughter of Luigi, took charge of the administrative department.
Over time, Gima Trans evolved from a road haulage business into a logistics operator specialising in temperature-controlled transport for the agri-food supply chain, using ATP FRC-certified vehicles capable of ensuring temperatures from +12°C to -20°C. Its client base includes major retail chains and leading food industry brands, for which it handles refrigerated and non-refrigerated deliveries, express transport, collections at production sites and storage services. Its operational sites are located in Pozzo d’Adda and Cortenuova, the latter covering 62,000 square metres with 10,000 square metres of warehouses and twenty-one loading bays, strategically located between the A35 and A4 motorways.
The Gima Trans fleet consists of 156 articulated lorries, 59 rigid trucks and four vans. In 2019, Gima Trans became the first company in Europe, Asia and Africa to introduce SLXi Hybrid technology on liquefied natural gas-powered vehicles, cutting CO2 emissions by 141 tonnes in a single year. “The decision to acquire Gima Trans is consistent with our strategy of growth and innovation,” said Mauro Brivio, chief executive of Brivio & Viganò, highlighting how the deal broadens service offerings, enhances internal expertise and strengthens competitive positioning. “Becoming part of Brivio & Viganò represents an opportunity to grow together, bringing infrastructure and expertise into a group that shares our vision of excellence and customer focus,” added Stefano Quarti, former chief executive of Gima Trans and now general manager of the division.
The transaction was overseen for Brivio & Viganò, under the coordination of chief financial officer Alessandro Cappelletti, by Studio Ranalli & Associati, Crow Valente, Pavesio & Associati, Studio Legale Pepe, Villa e Dosso, Studio Rdl and P&S Legal, while Gima Trans shareholders were advised by Studio RC Rescigno Carrara, Studio Legale Galbiati Sacchi Lamandini e Associati and Studio IG.
