DAF Trucks completes diesel and electric ranges

DAF Trucks is presenting a series of additions and innovations across its entire range of diesel and electric commercial vehicles at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover. These include new axle configurations for the XD, XF, XG and XG+ models, the completion of the electric range and a series of new digital functions and services. For diesel vehicles, the Dutch manufacturer is expanding the axle options available on the XD, XF, XG and XG+ ranges. For heavy-duty applications, particularly in construction, it is introducing a five-axle 10x4 configuration as standard: the XD or XF chassis combines two steered front axles – rated at 8, 9 or, for the first time, 10 tonnes – with a 34-tonne rear tridem comprising two driven axles and a steered, liftable rear axle. The combination allows a gross vehicle weight of up to 54 tonnes while retaining the manoeuvrability required on construction sites. A new 10-tonne twin-wheel steered front axle is also available for versions with a gross vehicle weight of 47 tonnes.

For car transport, DAF is offering chassis lowered to 83 centimetres in 4x2 and 6x2 versions, achieved by lowering the suspension by four centimetres and fitting low-profile tyres on 22.5-inch wheels, while remaining within the statutory four-metre height limit. The configuration is available on the XD, XF, XG and XG+; the XD version also features a roof lowered by 18 centimetres or a sloping roof, allowing an additional car to be carried above the cab.

For electric powertrains, DAF is completing its New Generation Electric range with the introduction of the XG and XG+ Electric, joining the XD and XF Electric. They feature new cabs that are 33 centimetres longer than the XF cab, providing up to 12.5 cubic metres of interior space and up to 2.2 metres of standing height. The range is also being expanded with tractors and rigids designed for specific applications. The 6x2 tractors with a pusher axle or steered rear axle are intended for heavy distribution, where payload and manoeuvrability in yards are key requirements. The 6x2 rigid with a 10-tonne twin-wheel rear axle is designed for tippers and hooklift systems, while the 6x4 and 8x4 versions, with 19- and 21-tonne driven tandem axles featuring single reduction or hub reduction, are aimed at construction applications. For the German swap-body market, DAF has developed dedicated 4x2 and 6x2 chassis with battery configurations of up to five packs, an offering the manufacturer describes as unique in the market: the chassis provides access to the twist locks and full compatibility with BDF swap bodies without compromising range.

All DAF electric vehicles use lithium iron phosphate batteries, free from cobalt and nickel, with an eight-year warranty. Their high thermal stability allows them to be fully charged every day without affecting service life, with a claimed range of more than 550 kilometres on a single charge. A new architecture eliminates the battery pack previously located beneath the cab and positions up to four packs further towards the rear axle. This reduces the front-axle load by around 700 kilograms and improves weight distribution, increasing payload capacity by up to 2.5 tonnes. Combined with the additional two tonnes of unladen weight permitted for electric vehicles under EU regulations and the optimised weight distribution, the payload advantage of the XD, XF, XG and XG+ Electric over equivalent diesel versions can reach 500 kilograms. Alongside its electric range, DAF also offers consultancy services, charging stations and energy storage systems from Paccar Power Solutions.

TruckIQ digital services, based on the Paccar Connect platform, form part of the DAF Transport Efficiency philosophy, which from autumn 2026 will appear on the grille of all DAF vehicles with the DTE badge. Remote software updates allow drivers to install them at the touch of a button on the dashboard, without having to visit a workshop. The PreDiagnostics service informs the dealer in advance of the work required, so technicians and spare parts are ready when the vehicle arrives, while Smart Service Alerts flag potential risks before they arise. Among the functions focused on efficiency and safety is a drowsiness and distraction detection system, which warns the driver if their gaze moves away from the road for more than six seconds. The fuel consumption monitoring system calculates actual consumption and lifetime vehicle totals in real time, while the weight monitoring system measures the mass of the vehicle or the entire combination.

For drivers, DAF is showcasing the Single Driver Luxury Package in Hanover for operations requiring only one driver, with no provision for a passenger seat. It introduces a new storage unit on the rear wall of the cab for the XF, XG and XG+. On the XG and XG+ versions, it provides three compartments with a combined capacity of up to 290 litres, accessed through hinged doors and two central sliding doors with chrome handles, as well as interior lighting and a towel rail in the lower section.
