As part of the digitalisation of transport, the Ferrovie dello Stato Group and Almaviva have set up the Sagitta consortium, with the objective of creating digital solutions to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of both public and private transport in Italy and abroad. Sagitta will operate along two main lines: international expansion and national development. On the international front, the consortium aims to export Italian technologies to global markets, with a particular focus on Europe, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa and India. Among the solutions being developed are advanced systems for traffic and transport planning and management, innovative tools for infrastructure monitoring, integrated mobility models incorporating the concept of Mobility as a Service, and platforms for ticketing and travel information services.
Domestically, Sagitta is focused on the creation of digital platforms supporting sustainable mobility, tourism and intermodal logistics, with particular attention to transport infrastructure monitoring to improve safety and efficiency. Leading the consortium are Francesco De Leo, chief global strategy and international officer of the FS Group, who serves as president, and Smeraldo Fiorentini, deputy CEO of Almaviva’s transportation and logistics division, who has been appointed managing director.
The creation of Sagitta offers advantages for both partners. For Almaviva, it represents an opportunity to accelerate the internationalisation of its technological solutions, including the Moova platform for integrated mobility. For the FS Group, it strengthens its position as a leading exporter of excellence in the transport sector and enables the development of digital platforms aimed at enhancing sustainability and efficiency across the entire mobility system.
Almaviva is an Italian group specialising in digital innovation, with a strong presence in the mobility, logistics, public administration and financial services sectors. The company develops advanced solutions based on big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cybersecurity, with a particular focus on digital transformation in the transport sector. It operates both nationally and internationally, with offices in several countries, including Brazil, the United States and the Middle East.
