The intermodal transport company Ambrogio Trasporti is shutting down its Campogalliano office, in Italy, which had been operating since October 2023 as a commercial base in what the company described as “a key logistics hub for connections in northern Italy”. The site had been opened to expand the intermodal network and develop third-party logistics management services. Speaking to the Turin edition of Corriere della Sera, Livio Ambrogio explained that the decision stems from the difficulties currently affecting the intermodal transport sector, which will lead the company to end the financial year in the red. He cited the 18-month interruption of rail traffic through the Frejus tunnel, the halt in work at the Gallarate terminal, and the reduction in exports to Germany. With no public intervention to address these infrastructural issues, the company has begun reducing its workforce.
The closure of the Campogalliano branch has triggered a reaction from the Filt Cgil union, particularly regarding the dismissal procedures for three employees. According to the union, on 6 November 2025, three employees were informed of their immediate dismissal during a meeting with the CEO and the commercial director. Marco Bottura, provincial secretary of Filt Cgil Modena, condemned the lack of any prior consultation: “Everything took place without any preliminary information, no discussion to access possible social safety nets, no offer of alternative roles or relocation options, no assessment of specific personal circumstances.” He also pointed out that one of the dismissed employees was pregnant.
In response, Luigi Ambrogio told Corriere della Sera that he was unaware of the employee’s pregnancy and that, upon learning of it, the company reinstated her. The matter has also drawn attention from local authorities. Giovanni Paglia, regional labour councillor for Emilia-Romagna, issued a statement describing the dismissals as “an unacceptable act”. Paglia stressed: “In Emilia-Romagna, where dialogue and the protection of workers are central, dismissals like these, carried out in such a short timeframe, are unacceptable.”
