Electric trucks for Gls in Italy
Daimler Truck Italia has delivered 21 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks to four Gls Italia contractors: Aev, y3k, Gruppo d’Innocenti and Sti. The new vehicles will be used on long-haul routes across the national network. The initiative is part of Gls’s decarbonisation plan, which began in 2023 with the introduction of its first electric truck operating between the Fiano hub, the San Lorenzo branch and the Fiano Romano headquarters.
Waberer’s expands in intermodal
Waberer’s Group has signed a cooperation agreement with Ktz Express, an international intermodal company owned by Kazakhstan’s state railways. The deal establishes a joint venture to develop and manage an intermodal terminal in the Budapest area, which will become the European terminus of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor. The project includes both infrastructure development and the joint management of container flows between China and Europe. Waberer’s will handle rail and road transport within Europe, while Ktz Express will oversee Asian connections. The agreement forms part of Waberer’s 2031 strategic plan aimed at diversifying services and strengthening rail logistics. The acquisition of a majority stake in Psp Group in 2024 and a memorandum of understanding with Gysev Cargo are also part of this strategy. The new terminal will serve as the European hub for Middle Corridor traffic.
Grimaldi partners with China Merchants
The Grimaldi Group and China Merchants Shenzhen Roro Shipping have signed a framework cooperation agreement to expand service capacity and network coverage in maritime transport and logistics. The deal aims to create operational synergies and network integration between two leading operators in car carrier shipping and multimodal logistics. The partnership will boost loading capacity, optimise resources and strengthen inland logistics. The goal is to offer customers a wider and more efficient network, particularly supporting Chinese exports. The agreement capitalises on the complementarity of the two companies and their established presence in the Chinese and European markets. Grimaldi will rely on its extensive euro-Mediterranean distribution network, while China Merchants will provide direct access to key Asian routes.
P&O Ferries boosts rail in Northern Europe
P&O Ferries has brought forward the expansion of its freight services in the North Sea, responding to strong customer demand. The move follows a 60% capacity increase introduced in March 2025 on the Tilbury–Europoort route. Two dedicated vessels, Norsky and Norstream, now operate on the line, providing up to 20 additional loading units per sailing and faster turnaround times. Early access to the Europoort terminal, now open from 7.00 local time, offers greater flexibility to operators. The Zeebrugge–Tilbury route has also been enhanced, with weekly sailings increased from 18 to 20, improving frequency and scheduling options for hauliers.
Rhenus to manage UN logistics for Cop 30
The Rhenus Group has been selected by Correios as global logistics provider for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (Cop 30), to be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. Working with Brazil’s state postal operator, appointed as the event’s Strategic Logistics Operator, Rhenus will oversee the international transport of UN cargo. The service covers the collection of materials in Bonn, Germany, air transport to São Paulo–Guarulhos and Viracopos airports, and customs management under temporary admission. After the conference, the company will handle re-export operations to Frankfurt and final delivery back to Bonn.
Electrification tests at La Spezia quays
The Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority has successfully completed initial electrification tests at La Spezia port. The trials, conducted on 21 October at Molo Garibaldi with the vessel Msc Seaview, verified the connection between the transformer substation and the ship’s on-board system using a cable-handling robot supplied by Estonian firm Shore Link. The works, carried out by Mont-Ele for more than €7 million, are part of the port authority’s cold ironing plan—the first in Italy to reach an operational testing stage. The system currently provides 10 MW of power, managed through two frequency converters and four transformers installed at the Molo Garibaldi substation. Further tests will validate the full electrical connection, allowing ships to shut down their generators while berthed. According to commissioner Bruno Pisano, the goal is to extend the system to three additional facilities included in the port’s development plan.
