Schmitz Cargobull has acquired a 48% shareholding in GT Trailers. After months of anticipation and with the green light from the relevant authorities, the alliance between the German company based in Münsterland, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of semi-trailers and transport solutions, and the Polish firm headquartered in Opole, a key player in the production of curtain-sided and high-volume trailers, has taken shape. The partnership, first announced in spring 2024, now translates into a concrete integration of expertise, technology and industrial capabilities. The aim is to join forces in the design, manufacture and marketing of trailers with galvanised chassis, responding to the evolving demands of a constantly changing market.
GT Trailers offers a complete and highly customisable range, spanning from curtain-sided to box trailers, with several lines developed to suit every operational need. Among these, the Prestige range stands out for its use of aluminium in the chassis, floor and bodywork, resulting in an extremely low unladen weight. The 2504 line, on the other hand, prioritises increased internal width, while the Basic version features a galvanised steel chassis.
Alongside these configurations, GT Trailers also develops fittings tailored to specific customer requirements, including load securing systems, hydraulic tail lifts, forklift attachments and through-loading capabilities. The company is also known for its range of interchangeable systems, including centre-axle trailers for swap bodies and related truck equipment, all built around a sturdy galvanised frame. In the semi-trailer segment, the catalogue includes urban versions and single-axle semi-trailers capable of carrying up to 98 cubic metres of goods with a payload exceeding 10,500 kilograms.
In addition to series production, GT Trailers is active in the design of special vehicles and the implementation of bespoke projects. It is precisely in this area that strong synergies are expected with Schmitz Cargobull, which will supply its proven components, such as its proprietary axle, Ferroplast bodies for refrigerated transport, and box or curtain-sided solutions for urban trailers equipped with steering axles.
