Wincanton to receive 24 electric trucks
Wincanton has announced it will introduce 24 new electric trucks into its fleet. The vehicles – supplied by Daf, Volvo and Renault Trucks – will come into service this summer, cutting annual CO₂ emissions by 2,400 tonnes. The project, part of the national Zehid programme, also includes charging infrastructure at key hubs such as Greenford, Portbury and Glasgow. The initiative supports the company’s target of achieving net zero emissions by 2040 and complements the use of biofuels and digital tools to optimise fleet operations.
Gnv launches new France-Algeria route
Gnv, the ferry company owned by the Msc Group, has launched two new weekly maritime links between France and Algeria, connecting the port of Sète with the Algerian cities of Algiers and Bejaia. The routes will be operated by the vessel Excellent, which has been recently refurbished to meet the needs of the Algerian market, including halal catering and family-friendly spaces. Inaugural ceremonies were held onboard in the ports of Sète and Algiers, with the participation of local authorities and media. Through these services, Gnv enters the Algerian market and strengthens its presence in the Mediterranean.
Msc opens intermodal terminal near Paris
The Msc Group has inaugurated the new trimodal inland terminal of Paris-Bruyères, directly connected to the port of Le Havre, where the company has been investing in terminal operations since 2001. As part of the Port 2000 project, Msc also operates in Le Havre via its subsidiary Terminal Investment Limited, which manages the Terminaux de Normandie. The new logistics hub, operated by Medlog, spans eleven hectares and is located 40 km north of Paris. Operational since the end of 2024, it has an annual capacity of over 100,000 teu. The site includes dual railway tracks, a 230-metre river quay and road access, and offers services for containers, refrigerated storage and special cargo.
Samskip starts container route between Blyth and Rotterdam
Samskip has launched a new weekly maritime container service between the Port of Blyth in north-east England and Rotterdam. The move aims to strengthen multimodal logistics links between the UK and Europe. The direct service enables fast transit to continental markets via Samskip’s road and rail network. Blyth was chosen for its strategic location and modern infrastructure. The new route offers a more sustainable alternative to conventional road freight.
Air transport solutions by Kuehne+Nagel and Sats
Kuehne+Nagel and Sats have introduced a rapid delivery service for urgent aircraft spare parts at Singapore Changi Airport, aimed at reducing downtime for grounded planes and improving real-time tracking. The initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023 to enhance the value chain and promote sustainability. The two companies have also launched sea-air logistics solutions at hubs in Los Angeles and Singapore, improving connectivity and reducing time, costs and emissions. In Frankfurt, a new service has been introduced in partnership with Worldwide Flight Services to accelerate customs clearance for imported goods.
Drones and AI to enhance motorway safety
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the State Motorway Company and the Fire Brigade Department to boost road safety using drones and Artificial Intelligence. Signed at the Ministry of the Interior, the agreement aims to improve emergency response times. Drones will provide real-time imagery of accidents, landslides and fires, while AI will analyse data from sensors and cameras to promptly detect and report risk situations. The goal is to enhance prevention, monitoring and response capabilities across Italy’s motorways.
