    25 Maggio 2026 - On 13 December 2026, Switzerland’s new operating model for single-wagonload rail freight will come into force: a smaller but more focused network, ten-year contracts with major shippers and CHF260 million in public support for 2026-2029. The aim is to move close to break-even by 2030.

  • Ticino public prosecutor assesses responsibility for Gotthard incident

    22 Maggio 2026 - The public prosecutor of the Canton of Ticino has concluded the criminal investigation into the derailment of 10 August 2023 in the Gotthard Base Tunnel. According to an expert report commissioned by the prosecutor’s office, SSB could have intervened to limit the damage, after allegedly ignoring unequivocal warning signs. The company rejects the accusation.

  • Sweden’s Bls Rail goes bankrupt after years of losses

    18 Maggio 2026 - The Swedish court in Alingsås has declared railway company Bls Rail bankrupt after an unsuccessful restructuring. The collapse was driven by prolonged losses, insufficient traffic, high costs and infrastructure problems.

    14 Maggio 2026 - A study on the Middle Corridor shows that it could become a major opportunity for Europe, which is instead watching from the sidelines and underestimating its advantages. Asian countries are moving more dynamically and investing.

  • Iran partially bypasses US blockade by rail

    12 Maggio 2026 - With its ports cut off by the US blockade, Iran is increasing rail links with China through Central Asia: freight trains from Xi’an to Tehran have risen from one a week to one every three or four days, although capacity remains far below maritime levels.

  • Lombardy backs the transalpine railway

    12 Maggio 2026 - Lombardy Regional Council has unanimously approved a motion committing the regional executive to act in all institutional forums to complete the railway access routes to AlpTransit. Switzerland is seizing the opportunity to press Canton Ticino and move together towards this goal.

  • Alliance for intermodal transport in Emilia-Romagna

    12 Maggio 2026 - Interporto Bologna, Dinazzano Po, Sapir and Rail Traction Company have signed a network contract to coordinate intermodal services, commercial initiatives and infrastructure investment. The aim is to increase rail volumes and strengthen Emilia-Romagna’s role between central Europe, the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
