Inter Ikea Group has launched a fully electrified heavy road transport project in partnership with transport company LC3 Trasporti, which is already one of its suppliers. The rollout involves a gradual increase in the fleet: from the five battery-electric trucks already in service, the number of vehicles will rise to more than ten Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 units by the third quarter of 2026. The vehicles will be used daily to transport containers to and from the ports of Genova and La Spezia to the Piacenza distribution centre, as well as for daily deliveries to retail stores across northern Italy departing from the same logistics hub.
Once fully operational, the project will enable more than 1.2 million kilometres a year to be driven with zero emissions, completely eliminating the carbon dioxide emissions associated with these transport flows. According to Inter Ikea Group, the initiative represents a concrete contribution to reducing the climate impact of road transport, one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonise. The results are made possible by the combination of LC3 Trasporti’s experience in testing low-impact solutions and the technological innovation of the eActros 600 trucks, which are equipped with next-generation fully electric propulsion systems.
