Swissport is strengthening its presence in Italy with the start of cargo handling activities at Milan Malpensa Airport. The new site marks a milestone in the Swiss company’s expansion across the country and paves the way for further growth in other areas of air transport, including ground handling, airport lounges and business aviation. Swissport’s new operations centre on a 4,000-square-metre warehouse located within the recently renovated WTC Malpensa complex, which is certified for customs and security standards. It is here that the company has launched the first phase of its operational plan, focusing on import management, pre-customs clearance procedures and distribution to express delivery services.
“Swissport’s cargo strategy in Italy has always aimed at expanding into Malpensa,” said Massimo Roccasecca, head of cargo at Swissport Italy. “Now we are ready to take the next step.” The second phase of the expansion involves broadening services to include exports, as well as extending the offering to general cargo and a wider range of air freight customers operating not only in Milan, but throughout the country.
Swissport’s commitment in Italy, however, goes beyond cargo operations. The company also intends to grow in the ground handling, lounge hospitality and executive aviation sectors. This was confirmed by Marina Bottelli, managing director of Swissport Italy, who stated, “We are deeply committed to the Italian market and want to bring our international expertise to deliver high-quality services and contribute to the overall development of the airport system.”
