Faw Jiefang, the commercial vehicle division of Chinese group Faw, took part in IAA Transportation 2026 under the Faw Trucks brand, with the aim of entering the premium segment of the European market. At its stand in Hannover, the company displayed five models and nine functional systems developed in-house, along with a road tractor prototype called the 2036 Concept Truck. The exhibition, presented under the theme "Engineering the next horizon", was divided into four areas: Low Carbon, Future, Zero Carbon and Ecosystem. It covered five powertrain technologies: diesel, natural gas, hydrogen, battery electric and hybrid. Alongside the vehicles, the manufacturer presented five brands from its own ecosystem, highlighting connectivity, services and international support capabilities.
The Cortron CS is a road tractor available with either an electric or diesel powertrain. The electric version uses an 800 V architecture and charges via the CCS2 standard using dual connectors, with currents of up to 1,000 amps. Drive is provided by a dual-motor electric axle, for which the manufacturer claims a maximum transmission efficiency of 94.5%. The vehicle can also be optionally prepared for the Megawatt Charging System, the European high-power charging standard for commercial vehicles. For the diesel Cortron CS, Faw claims fuel savings of up to 15%, which it attributes to components developed in-house.
The 2036 Concept Truck prototype is described as an open technology platform and made its global debut in Hannover, featuring a modular cab and interior. Its drivetrain is compatible with different diesel and electric powertrain configurations and, according to Faw, customers will be able to buy the former and later switch to the latter without replacing the entire truck. The platform is already designed to support autonomous driving and artificial intelligence systems. During IAA 2026, Faw provided no details on European type approval for individual models, the configurations that will actually be available, its sales and service network on the continent, spare-parts availability, warranties, total cost of ownership or the timetable for market launch.
