Transport and logistics news – 23 June 2026

    Gruber expands in Verona

Gruber Logistics is expanding capacity at its Verona site with 6,000 square metres of covered warehouse space at Interporto Quadrante Europa. The new facility has racking for up to 5,000 pallet spaces, 1,400 square metres for loose goods and 3,000 square metres for outdoor storage. The site includes ten loading bays and 25 ramps, designed to speed up inbound and outbound truck operations. The new space adds to the hub opened in 2024, which already has modern offices, around 100 direct employees across office and warehouse activities, and 70 loading ramps. The expansion follows a long-term agreement with a long-standing customer, which will use most of the available space. Gruber Logistics has been present in Verona for more than four decades and benefits from its location on the Brenner axis.

    Ceva strengthens logistics for Byd

Ceva Logistics and Chinese carmaker Byd Group have signed a three-year memorandum of understanding in Marseille to develop integrated global automotive logistics solutions across six continents. The agreement expands an existing partnership and will cover route planning, capacity allocation, warehousing, distribution, customs coordination, localised operations, delivery management and low-emission logistics solutions. The agreement supports the shift in Byd’s international strategy from exporting finished vehicles to a more complex global production network. Ceva will support the group in finished vehicle logistics, inbound production logistics, overseas distribution, aftersales services and continuity of supply to plants. The partnership is based on Byd’s presence in more than 100 countries and Ceva’s network in 170 countries, with around 110,000 employees and 1,700 facilities. During the signing ceremony, Byd awarded Ceva the Best Carrier of the Year 2026 prize for service reliability, operational agility and expertise in automotive logistics.

Fercam boosts its presence in India

Fercam is opening its fourth branch in India, in Mumbai, completing a direct network across the country’s main economic regions: New Delhi in the north, Kolkata in the east, Chennai in the south and Mumbai in the west. The new office strengthens the group’s presence in a logistics gateway with a central role in international trade flows, thanks to one of South Asia’s main container ports and first-class airport infrastructure. The opening is intended to support maritime traffic in the region, integrating it with air transport and supply chain management, with the aim of improving operational efficiency, timeliness and service quality. Mumbai is also important from an industrial perspective, serving sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, steel, automotive and engineering. The automotive supply chain can use the port to export vehicles and components to global markets. The new presence also enables Fercam to tap into the growth in trade between India and Europe, from Indian demand for industrial technologies, electronic components, fashion and luxury goods to Indian exports in manufacturing, textiles, technology and pharmaceuticals.

Rhenus and Cosco sign strategic alliance

Rhenus and Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a strategic partnership at the Rhenus Cuxport terminal in Cuxhaven, northern Germany. The agreement aims to combine the port expertise of the German logistics group with the maritime capabilities of the Chinese shipping company, with the goal of strengthening solutions along the supply chain and digital integration between port and maritime operations. Under the partnership, Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers plans to deploy its multipurpose fleet at Rhenus Cuxport terminals. The two companies will provide customers with integrated transport services and develop comprehensive logistics solutions in Cuxhaven, covering breakbulk, automotive, heavy lift and special cargo, including shipments on semi-submersible vessels and end-to-end distribution. Rhenus will contribute its terminals, warehouses, inbound and outbound rail links, feeder shuttle routes by barge and transport fleets in Cuxhaven. The German site, described as a key hub for multipurpose and project logistics thanks to its integrated infrastructure and national and international connections, would offer favourable conditions for the development of the activities covered by the agreement. The partnership will also enable Rhenus Project Logistics to offer new integrated logistics solutions along Europe’s North Range.

Drones in the port of Palermo

Under the protocol signed on 25 May in Palermo, the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare di Sicilia occidentale (Port System Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea) and Stradaai are launching a three-year cooperation agreement to integrate drones into operations at the port of Palermo. The agreement covers UAS technologies and U-space services, which are needed to coordinate low-altitude drone traffic and reduce interference with port operations. The programme focuses on infrastructure monitoring, security support, inspection of quays and ships, environmental control, emergency response and new logistics and technical-nautical services. The first step will be to request the establishment of the U-space from the competent authorities. The protocol also provides for training for local port operators and boatmen, feasibility analyses, mapping of UAS geographical zones, technical workshops and at least one pilot project. The agreement does not introduce binding financial obligations between the parties, but defines an institutional and technical framework for operational and experimental activities. Stradaai, together with Poliedra sanità, has been selected for Phase 2 of the European Step programme with the Droneport Sicily project, dedicated to healthcare transport by drone between ports and islands.
