Msc Mediterranean Shipping Company suspended on 1 March 2026 all global container bookings destined for the Middle East and introduced extraordinary operational measures for its vessels in the Gulf region. The decision comes in response to the evolving security situation in the area and the restrictions affecting maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb. Specifically, Msc has instructed all vessels currently operating in the Gulf, as well as those en route to the area, to proceed to designated safe haven areas until further notice. The measure has been adopted as a precautionary step, with the stated aim of protecting crews and ensuring the safety of operations.
Bookings will resume as soon as the security situation allows. Msc said it will continue to monitor developments closely and work with the competent Authorities to ensure operational continuity under safe conditions. The company also stated that customers will be informed as soon as further details become available, including the possible identification of alternative discharge ports should additional operational adjustments prove necessary. For further information, Msc invites customers to contact their local representatives within its global network of more than 675 offices.
