A lorry driver was robbed by a fake police officer on the evening of Saturday 31 January 2026, at around 9.10 pm. The incident took place in Bockenem, in the district of Hildesheim, in a side car park of a service station east of Oppelner Straße. According to the reconstruction, the man introduced himself as a police officer, approached the driver under a pretext and persuaded him to hand over his wallet, from which he removed the cash before leaving the scene.
The sequence described by the Polizeiinspektion Hildesheim indicates that the perpetrators arrived in a car, an older-model Mercedes C220 CDI. A man got out from the passenger side wearing a dark blue jacket with the word Polizei, without official insignia, and a baseball cap. He is described as around 180 centimetres tall, weighing about 85 kilograms, with a slight moustache. After the theft, the vehicle fled eastwards, possibly heading towards the motorway junction.
The same source recalls that, in case of doubt during a check, it is legitimate to ask for verification of an officer’s identity and to contact the police directly through official channels, without relying on numbers provided by the alleged officer. The presence of a jacket bearing the word Polizei without official insignia, an approach by individuals not clearly identifiable as part of a patrol, and requests to hand over a wallet or cash are warning signs that require caution.
