On 14 October 2025, Gruppo Astm opened Italy’s first motorway service station exclusively for electric vehicles, located on the A5 Quincinetto–Aosta route at the Les Iles de Brissogne Sud rest area. Developed in partnership with Ionity, the facility covers 5,500 square metres and includes 27 parking bays, seven of which are equipped with charging points: six ultra-fast chargers delivering 350 kW and one fast charger delivering 50 kW.
Two of the charging bays are designed to serve both light and industrial vehicles. The layout allows for the installation of six additional ultra-fast chargers, anticipating growing demand for electric charging. A pedestrian walkway connects the site to the Les Iles de Brissogne Nord rest area, ensuring easy access to food and rest facilities. According to Gruppo Astm, the project follows principles of “universal usability”, providing full accessibility, including for people with disabilities. The initiative was developed in consultation with the Ministry of Transport, with the aim of creating a model that could be replicated on other motorway routes.
The A5 Quincinetto–Aosta, managed by Sav Società Autostrade Valdostane, a Gruppo Astm concessionaire, links the national motorway network with mountain passes towards France and Switzerland. With a total of 1,100 km of network in Italy, the Group is the main operator in the North-West and aims to strengthen its charging infrastructure along cross-border corridors. The project reflects Astm’s environmental strategy, focused on reducing the environmental footprint of its infrastructure through integrated technological solutions — from the use of graphene-based and recycled asphalts to systems for collecting and reusing rainwater.
Paolo Pierantoni, president of Sav, emphasised that the network managed by the group “confirms its role as a strategic platform supporting the evolution of mobility”, describing the new station as “a step forward in the ecological transition, aligned with the European context and the growing spread of electric vehicles.”
