Padborg, a Danish town strategically located near the German border and hosting a significant intermodal terminal, has become a key hub for international transportation. Many trucking companies, particularly from Eastern Europe, use it as a stopover point for driver rest periods. Recognizing this strategic importance, Girteka has established a new facility in Padborg through Thermo-Transit to serve its drivers.
The newly constructed facility, situated adjacent to a Thermo-Transit platform, spans 725 square meters and includes a 28,000-square-meter parking area. It houses 36 double rooms, accommodating up to 72 drivers, with an additional renovated building offering 15 more beds. Besides the sleeping quarters, the Padborg facility boasts shared kitchens, laundry services, lounges, and high-speed internet.
The project involved an investment of 12 million Danish kroner (approximately 1.6 million euros) and complies with local and international regulations for long-term rest of industrial vehicle drivers. Girteka emphasizes that the facility is primarily used for overnight stays and extended breaks, allowing drivers to fully recharge before resuming their duties.
Heinrich Nielsen, Head of Transport at Thermo-Transit, explains, “Our goal is to provide our drivers with a home-like experience when they are away from home. By offering these comprehensive services, we enable them to rest, recharge, and maintain personal hygiene during breaks. This ensures that on their next journey, drivers are fully focused on delivering their cargo on time and in the right condition.”
