Lufthansa Cargo has completed the acquisition of Lug Aircargo Handling, an air cargo ground handling company sold by the Dettmer Group for an undisclosed amount. Following the agreement signed on 7 September 2026 and receipt of all required antitrust approvals, the transaction has brought Lug under Lufthansa Cargo's full ownership. Lug will continue to operate as an independent company under its own brand within Lufthansa Cargo.
Lug has more than 60 years of experience in air cargo ground handling and employs around 400 people. It handles a wide range of cargo and is familiar with the requirements of international airlines. Lufthansa Cargo has confirmed that existing customer contracts will remain in place and that handling services for other airlines will continue to be part of Lug's operations. Under the new ownership structure, Lug will be able to build on its strengths and pursue new business opportunities. Frank Bauer, Chief Operating Officer of Lufthansa Cargo, said the acquisition "lays an important foundation for further growth and greater flexibility in our home market". The deal expands Lufthansa Cargo's handling capacity in Germany, complementing its existing infrastructure, including the LCCevo modernisation programme at Frankfurt Airport, in which the airline is investing around €600 million.
