Maersk-Apm will develop the new TangerMed 3 container terminal under concession, at the port that will rise to the west of TangerMed 2. Morocco's Royal Cabinet announced the signing of the contract on 28 October 2026, following a meeting chaired by Mohammed VI at the Royal Palace in Rabat. The terminal will have 1,200 metres of quay and will add 4.5 million TEU a year of capacity, a figure that could reach 5 million. According to the Royal Cabinet, work will begin shortly, although it has yet to disclose the length of the concession or the date of signing. The Royal Cabinet cites an investment of 8 billion dirhams (about €730 million), to which will be added more than 16 billion dirhams (about €1.4 billion) of private investment by the concessionaires.
The terminal is scheduled to enter service in mid-2031. With the new projects, including the expansion of the passenger and ro-ro port and the eastward extension of TangerMed 2, the Royal Cabinet puts the capacity the entire complex could reach at 20 million TEU a year, which would place it among the ten largest container ports in the world. In 2025, TangerMed's four container terminals handled 11.1 million TEU, an increase of 8.4%, and the port authority attributes a significant share of the growth to the latest extension of the Tc4 terminal, already operated by Apm Terminals. The port also recorded 535,000 trucks.
