Savino Del Bene has strengthened its presence in the Iberian Peninsula with the acquisition of three companies belonging to Grupo Marítima Sureste, a Spanish logistics group active in international freight forwarding, intermodal transport and integrated logistics services. The transaction, announced on 5 May 2026, concerns Marítima Sureste Shipping, Marítima Sureste Spain and Transportes Gaypemar, and consolidates the Florence-based group’s position along the Murcia, Almería and Algeciras axis. According to the Tuscan company, the acquisition allows it to bring into the group an already structured operating platform in southern Spain, covering forwarding, warehousing, inland container transport and rail freight connections. The three companies will remain independent entities within the Savino Del Bene Group, maintaining organisational continuity in the region.
The core of the acquisition is Marítima Sureste Shipping, a logistics and freight forwarding company that coordinates its activities from the El Estrecho logistics hub. The site covers more than 50,000 square metres in total, including more than 10,000 square metres of warehousing. The infrastructure strengthens the Italian group’s ability to manage cargo flows in an area connected both to western Mediterranean ports and to inland routes in southern Spain. The assets included in the transaction also comprise a warehouse in Cheste, in the Valencia area, with 8,000 square metres of covered space and 4,000 square metres of outdoor area.
These are joined by a 10,000-square-metre warehouse at the Nonduermas rail terminal, where the company holds an exclusive Adif (Spanish railway infrastructure manager) concession for managing rail freight traffic and container trains. Other operational facilities are located in Almería and Algeciras, two important nodes for maritime and inland connections in southern Spain. The inclusion of the Nonduermas terminal in Savino Del Bene’s operating perimeter is one of the most significant industrial elements of the agreement. Access to dedicated rail capacity makes it possible to expand intermodal solutions and reduce reliance on road transport alone, particularly for container flows.
Marítima Sureste Spain operates in freight forwarding, while Transportes Gaypemar specialises in inland container transport. The integration of the three companies therefore enables Savino Del Bene to strengthen both the organisational side of its forwarding activities and the component more directly linked to physical assets, particularly vehicles, storage areas and access to the rail terminal. Gianni Bachini, Regional Director for France, Spain and Portugal at Savino Del Bene, said the integration broadens the group’s geographical coverage and strengthens its ability to offer more comprehensive logistics solutions, especially in door-to-door services and intermodal operations. Bachini also identified rail assets as a strategic element in offering more efficient and sustainable alternatives to road transport, while maintaining competitiveness in costs and transit times.
In 2025, Savino Del Bene moved 852,000 TEU by sea and 92,500 tonnes by air, ending the year with turnover of around €2.9bn. Grupo Marítima Sureste handled around 10,000 TEU during the year. The Murcia region is an important intersection point for agri-food, industrial and container flows: Almería is significant for traffic linked to fruit and vegetables and exports to Europe, while Algeciras is one of the Mediterranean’s main ports for container traffic and connections with ocean routes.
