Dhl launches Xcelerate
Dhl Aviation has announced the launch of Xcelerate, an airport-to-airport airfreight service offering priority shipments, instant confirmations, and guaranteed capacity even for last-minute bookings. The new product, aimed at freight forwarders and major operators, promises reduced transit times and high loading priority, along with dedicated support and proactive notifications. Xcelerate also ensures priority release of goods upon arrival. The service includes a sustainable fuel surcharge, in line with Dhl's goal of cutting emissions and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
New logistics hub in Calcinate
Arvato has expanded its European collaboration with biotech company argenx, active since 2022, by extending direct distribution to the Italian market. Following its launch in Spain from Alcalá de Henares, argenx products are now distributed in Italy from Arvato’s site in Calcinate, near Bergamo. The new hub covers the entire country, ensuring faster and more efficient logistics for autoimmune therapies. The move responds to growing demand and aims to reduce environmental impact. Arvato, already providing integrated services in Germany, further consolidates its presence in the European healthcare sector.
La Poste adopts 'Tetris mode'
La Poste has transformed its logistics operations by taking inspiration from the iconic video game Tetris. A new loading system now stacks parcels from floor to ceiling in industrial vehicles without leaving empty space, allowing each truck to carry up to 4,500 parcels, compared to the previous 1,500. The idea, developed in collaboration with Tetris, has helped avoid the emission of 15,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
WestJet Cargo adds three new destinations in Cuba
WestJet Cargo has announced the expansion of its network with three new Cuban destinations: Holguin, Santa Clara and Varadero. The move follows the integration of Sunwing Airlines into the WestJet Group, bringing 18 Boeing 737s into the fleet and up to 2.5 tonnes of additional cargo capacity per flight. Daily flights from Toronto to Varadero will be offered, along with four weekly flights to Santa Clara and three to Holguin. From Montréal, there will be daily flights to Varadero and four weekly to Holguin. The expansion strengthens the Toronto–Havana weekly service already active since 2023.
Chep and Cabka awarded two Red Dot Awards
Chep and Cabka have received the 2025 Red Dot Award in two categories for their reusable Sleeve Pack FalConic container: Best Design – Industrial Packaging and Most Sustainable Design – Industrial Design. The awards will be officially presented on 8 July in Essen, Germany. Unveiled at FachPack 2024, the FalConic is made of over 80% recycled material and incorporates IoT features, ergonomic design and innovative locking solutions. This marks the second consecutive award for the two companies, following the 2024 success of the ZirConic.
Largest container hub on the Caspian Sea inaugurated in Aktau
The largest container hub on the Caspian Sea has been inaugurated in Aktau, Kazakhstan. Completed ahead of schedule under a 2023 presidential directive, the facility was developed by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy in partnership with the ports of Lianyungang and Aktau, and built by China Communications Construction Company. With an annual capacity of 240,000 teu, the hub strengthens the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, promoting trade between China and Europe without passing through Russia. The inauguration coincided with the arrival of the 100,000th container from China.
