Metrans, the rail transport company under the umbrella of the German terminal operator Hhla, acquired the entire capital of the Croatian intermodal operator Adria Rail, having previously held 51% of the company. This move marks a significant step in Metrans' expansion across Europe, coming less than a year after initially acquiring a majority stake. Adria Rail, a Croatian firm, operates intermodal trains to, from, and through Croatia, including services that link the Rijeka container terminal on the Adriatic Sea to its terminal in Indija, on the outskirts of Belgrade, Serbia. Adria Rail handles over 70% of container traffic departing from the Brajdica Container Terminal in Rijeka and also holds a license as a railway company in Croatia.
With this acquisition, Adria Rail also undergoes a rebranding to align its logo with the Metrans Group identity. The Serbian terminal in Indija becomes the twentieth in the Metrans network, boasting connections across Europe. Adria Rail also contributes a rolling stock and about forty industrial vehicles to the Metrans arsenal. Metrans, headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, is controlled by the German HHLA, which recently saw an entry by the MSC Group.
