Interporto Bologna, the company overseeing the infrastructure that shares its name, took centre stage at the Emilia-Romagna Intermodal Cluster stand during transport logistic 2025 in Munich to showcase its “Strategic manifesto for the development of services and infrastructure to support rail freight transport 2025–2035”. During the event, president Stefano Caliandro highlighted plans to expand the rail terminal area, install new gantry cranes to enhance intermodal operations, and build a secure lorry park equipped with services for road hauliers.
A key focus of the presentation was the project centred on energy communities and collective self-consumption, set to take shape within the freight village over the coming months. The initiative aims to generate up to 40 megawatts of renewable energy and contribute significantly to the energy transition of the logistics platform. Caliandro reiterated Interporto Bologna’s goal of becoming a zero-emissions infrastructure by 2050, framing this ambition within a broader strategy that also includes process digitalisation and stronger links with the port of Ravenna, in order to build a regional logistics network capable of meeting the challenges of competitiveness and efficiency.
Alongside the environmental dimension, the issue of social sustainability was also addressed. The president recalled the freight village’s commitment to ethical logistics, already reflected in projects designed to improve working conditions, safety, and the quality of services for workers and local communities. According to Caliandro, sustainability must go beyond technical and environmental measures to become a guiding principle in human relationships and organisational decisions.
