Alpe Adria, the intermodal logistics company based in Friuli Venezia Giulia, has announced the launch of a direct intermodal rail connection between the Samer Seaport Terminal (SST) at the Port of Trieste and the inland terminal at Sacconago, managed by Malpensa Intermodale in Varese province. The company, controlled by the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, revealed the project during the Logitrans event in Istanbul. The service will operate in collaboration with DFDS and SBB Cargo International, enabling the transportation of containers, swap bodies, and semi-trailers. The partnership with DFDS also ensures the inclusion of ro-ro transport services for semi-trailers between Trieste and Turkish ports served by the Danish operator. Initially, the service will run twice weekly, with plans to scale up to daily operations. The ultimate aim is to handle 380 loading units per week, significantly enhancing connectivity between Northern Italy and the international supply chain.
