The new MAN eTGX is making its debut at the press day for IAA Transportation 2026, the trade fair taking place in Hanover from 14 to 20 September, where German manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus is showcasing its full range of trucks and vans with electric and diesel powertrains. The new eTGX electric tractor features upgrades to its aerodynamics, battery and energy recovery system. According to the German manufacturer, the new battery generation provides 10% more usable energy than the previous version, while overall efficiency has improved by 3%. In the 4x2 tractor configuration, range increases to as much as 660 kilometres, while the new 6x2 variant, equipped with a seventh battery, reaches 720 kilometres. The 4x2 tractor has a kerb weight of 10.7 tonnes, allowing a payload of up to 25 tonnes with a standard semi-trailer, comparable with that of an equivalent diesel tractor. The new cab design also improves driver visibility.
With the eTGL, eTGM, eTGS and eTGX ranges, MAN completes its electric truck line-up, covering gross vehicle weights from 12 to 50 tonnes. Applications range from urban distribution and municipal services to construction and long-haul transport, supported by modular battery technology. Since July 2026, MAN has been producing the first eTGX and eTGS models equipped with Megawatt Charging System technology. The ultra-fast charging system can take the batteries from 20% to 80% charge in around 30 minutes, a period compatible with the driver's mandatory break.
Alongside its electric vehicles, the manufacturer offers a dedicated electromobility ecosystem under the MAN Transport Solutions brand, encompassing charging infrastructure, smart energy management and new applications such as bidirectional charging, with the aim of reducing charging times and energy costs for electric fleets. The MAN Charge&Go charging network, already operating across Europe and tested for compatibility with electric commercial vehicles, is being expanded with 50 new charging locations inCzech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Portugal) For sites without a high-capacity grid connection, the manufacturer offers the Smart Charging Cube.
On the diesel side, MAN is highlighting the D30 PowerLion engine, which the manufacturer says delivers fuel savings of up to 5% compared with the previous generation. Across its entire range of combustion-engine commercial vehicles, MAN is introducing updates to assistance and safety systems. The EfficientCruise predictive cruise control system makes more effective use of road infrastructure information, while interaction between FrontDetection, the turn assist system and the emergency brake assist system provides greater protection for vulnerable road users, including at low speeds. The new eTGX also introduces several driver-focused features: wireless smartphone charging, EasyControl controls on the passenger-side door, a high-power 230-volt socket and a mechanical night lock for added security during rest breaks. Among its conventionally powered vehicles, MAN is displaying a new TGS 8x4 with a gross vehicle weight of 60 tonnes, designed primarily to provide the robustness and payload required for mining applications worldwide.
At IAA Transportation, MAN is also presenting the Beyond Diesel report, based on an analysis of three international fleets at different stages of electrification. The study shows that companies adopting electric technology at an early stage gain a structural economic advantage through a combination of smart charging and energy solutions such as photovoltaic systems and battery storage installed at the depot. According to the report, the total cost advantage over diesel can reach 13% after five years of operation.
MAN is also showcasing new developments in light commercial vehicles. These include two pre-production electric prototypes developed with Flux using the MAN TGE as their basis. The two vehicles are intended for specialist applications requiring higher gross vehicle weights, all-wheel drive and electric power take-offs, including emergency services, VFire Brigade and municipal operations, areas where electrification has so far been possible only to a limited extent. The installed battery has a gross capacity of 119 kWh and provides a range of up to 480 kilometres under the WLTP cycle. MAN is using the Hanover event to gather customer feedback on the project.
The MAN TGE is also marking 10 years since its world debut, which took place in Hanover, with new customisation options from MAN Individual: the TGE Individual Lion X equipment line and the entry-level Individual Black package. On the digital front, from September the manufacturer is offering Lifetime Connectivity at no additional cost, making all the vehicle's digital services free of charge, including online functions and map updates. The new MAN TGE Connect app, designed to help drivers with day-to-day vehicle management, is also being introduced.
