On 8 September 2026, Lufthansa Cargo announced an agreement to acquire the entire share capital of Lug Aircargo Handling, an airport handling company based in Germany and previously controlled by the Dettmer group, for an undisclosed sum. The agreement was signed on 7 September and provides for Lug to continue operating independently in the market, retaining its existing facilities and commercial relationships with its customers. Completion of the transaction remains subject to the necessary antitrust and regulatory approvals.
For Lufthansa Cargo, the acquisition forms part of an infrastructure expansion already launched through the Lccevo programme, which includes total investment of around €600 million in modernising its ground handling network in Germany. With Lug, the airline gains additional handling capacity that is immediately available, without interfering with the modernisation already under way. Lug Aircargo Handling has more than 60 years’ experience in air cargo handling and counts some of the world’s leading international airlines among its customers. The company employs around 400 people and has about 50,000 square metres of covered warehouse space in Germany, as well as a further 18,000 square metres of office and infrastructure space. "In an increasingly unstable market environment, we want to become more flexible, more efficient and more resilient for our customers", said Frank Bauer, Chief Operating Officer of Lufthansa Cargo.
