On the evening of Sunday 15 March 2026, in Faenza (Italy), a dispute between truck drivers escalated into a violent attack with a metal bar. Carabinieri from the Faenza Company arrested a 46-year-old Romanian haulier on suspicion of attempted murder, while two other individuals were reported but not detained in connection with the same incident. According to officers from the Radiomobile Unit (Nucleo Radiomobile), the argument broke out between three truck drivers, all Romanian nationals and all previously known to police. The incident took place in a parking area where the drivers were stationed with their vehicles. The exact cause of the dispute has not yet been established, but investigators point to trivial motives and a context also marked by alcohol consumption.
The situation quickly escalated. During the altercation, one of those present allegedly handed the attacker a metal bar. The 46-year-old then repeatedly struck his compatriot on the head with extreme violence. According to local reports, the victim collapsed to the ground bleeding, yet continued to be hit before the assault ended. Despite his serious injuries, the man managed to contact emergency services. Medical staff from the 118 emergency service, upon arriving at the scene, immediately requested the intervention of the Carabinieri after assessing the severity of the situation. Officers identified and searched the three drivers involved, reconstructing the main stages of the fight and seizing the bar used in the attack.
Further checks revealed an additional element: a knife was found in the pocket of the assaulted man. For this reason, the victim has been reported for unlawful possession of a bladed weapon, while the truck driver who allegedly handed over the metal bar has been reported for aiding the attempted murder. The assaulted man was taken urgently to the Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, a reference centre for serious cases in the Romagna area, where he remains under observation.
The severity of the blows inflicted and the part of the body targeted led the Carabinieri to charge the 46-year-old with attempted murder. The man was arrested in flagrante and transferred to Ravenna prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities. All aspects of the case are now under examination by prosecutors, including the role of the other individuals involved and the circumstances that led to the escalation of violence.
