First eActros 600 for Fercam
Fercam has received its first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, a long-haul electric lorry with a range of up to 500 kilometres. The delivery coincides with the opening in Firmian, Bolzano, of the first one-megawatt heavy-duty charging point built by Alpitronic along the Brenner motorway. The vehicle will be used along the Brenner corridor for transport services to Daimler, reinforcing the company’s decarbonisation strategy.
Logista opens new Cash & Carry in Genoa
Logista has inaugurated its new Cash & Carry connected to the Transit Point at 13 via Luigi Canepa in Genoa. The refurbished facility, covering 1,500 square metres across retail space, offices and warehouse, will serve around 850 tobacconists in Liguria, offering tobacco products, convenience items and tailored services. The investment is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing territorial coverage and environmental sustainability. The site is powered by renewable energy and promotes initiatives such as Recycle-Cig, a recycling programme for electronic cigarettes now active in over 60 percent of Italian tobacconists.
Anti-piracy exercise in the Gulf of Guinea
On 18 May 2025, the “Antipiracy Exercise 2025/01” was conducted in the Gulf of Guinea, organised by the Italian Navy in collaboration with the Coast Guard, Grimaldi Deep Sea and Confitarma. The drill involved the naval vessel Comandante Bettica, on mission Gabinia, and the merchant ship Grande Angola. A simulated pirate attack triggered the activation of the Ssas system and the intervention of a boarding team from the San Marco Marine Brigade. The exercise aimed to test operational procedures, communication flows, and security plans while reinforcing civil-military cooperation. The initiative forms part of wider international efforts to safeguard maritime navigation.
Unieuro opens logistics hub in Colleferro
Unieuro has opened a new 50,000-square-metre logistics hub in Colleferro, near Rome, following an investment of over 50 million euros over ten years. The facility will serve nine regions in Central and Southern Italy and will employ around 100 people. The new infrastructure strengthens Unieuro’s logistics network, complementing the existing hub in Piacenza and integrating with the regional platform in Carini, Palermo, and 33 last-mile delivery centres. The hub is expected to reduce delivery times by up to three days in Central Italy and by one day in Southern regions and on the islands.
H.Essers inaugurates new logistics centre in Fidenza
European logistics group H.Essers has opened a new warehouse in Fidenza, with chairwoman Hilde Essers, CEO Gert Bervoets and mayor Davide Malvisi in attendance. The facility, dedicated to the healthcare sector, covers 15,000 square metres and can be expanded to 50,000. Located strategically between Milan and Bologna, the site is expected to create around 300 new jobs. It complies with Gdp and Gmp standards and has already attracted clients such as Ucb, Chiesi and Novartis. H.Essers, active in Italy since the 1980s, has strengthened its presence in the country through the acquisition of Romano Trasporti in 2023.
JCB gains EU approval for hydrogen engine
JCB has obtained the first full EU type-approval for its hydrogen-powered engine designed for non-road mobile machinery. The certification, issued under EU Regulation 2016/1628, confirms that the engine complies with Stage V emission standards. This approval allows the engine to be marketed and used across all 27 EU member states, as well as in EEA and EFTA countries. The recognition follows previous authorisations in nine European countries where the engine had already been approved under “new technologies” regulations.
W&P adds 20 eActros 600 and opens charging station
Bavarian transport company W&P has expanded its electric fleet with 20 new Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 vehicles, adding to the three eActros 300 units already operating on daily routes of up to 480 kilometres. The new model was chosen for its 500-kilometre range without the need for intermediate charging and its integrated electric mobility concept. At the same time, W&P inaugurated a new company charging station in Prichsenstadt, equipped with 56 fast-charging points powered by solar energy and supported by 15,000 kWh of battery storage. The infrastructure, backed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks through the TruckCharge programme, also includes dedicated services for drivers.
