The Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency has put the I-Road Port Tracking project into operation at Genoa Pra’, enabling real-time tracking of trucks and cargo throughout the port logistics cycle. The initiative was developed in cooperation with the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority, with operational support from the General Command of the Guardia di Finanza. The project forms part of the Single Customs and Controls Window and continues the digital transformation programme promoted by the agency, strengthening cooperation between public authorities, port operators and businesses.
Port Tracking is based on interoperability between the Aida customs information system and the Port Community System operated by the port authority, allowing the two platforms to exchange data. The agency specifies that the information is used exclusively for the institutional, customs, inspection and operational management purposes covered by the project. With information available more quickly, the Customs Agency and Guardia di Finanza can carry out more targeted checks and reduce the time trucks spend passing through port gates. The agency intends to extend Port Tracking gradually to other Italian ports, connecting digital systems to standardise procedures and improve coordination between the competent authorities throughout the logistics chain.
