Brescia Montichiari's Gabriele d'Annunzio Airport inaugurated a new 4,300 sq m cargo warehouse on 30 October 2026, built at a cost of €10 million as part of its Master Plan. The steel-framed building covers 4,300 sq m and has a double-pitched roof enclosing a volume of approximately 67,000 cubic metres. The warehouse will be used mainly by Amazon, which has operated four daily flights from Montichiari, six days a week, to various European destinations since September 2026. To support Amazon's operations, the airport has X-ray screening equipment, castor decks, cargo loaders and new bays for loading and unloading lorries.
The existing buildings, used by Poste Italiane, DHL and non-European cargo flights, cover a total of 20,000 sq m. Montichiari is Poste Italiane's main operational hub. The €10 million spent on the new warehouse comes on top of €20 million invested in infrastructure and operational equipment since 2015, while the airport awaited completion of the Master Plan approval process. The plan provides for total investment of €100 million.
Under the Piano Nazionale degli Aeroporti 2026–2035 (National Airports Plan 2026–2035), Brescia Airport is designated exclusively for cargo traffic. It is located in an industrial catchment area which, according to the SAVE Group, accounts for more than half of Italian exports and is served by five motorways. This position enables the airport to capture domestic cargo flows that are currently transported by road to airports in Northern Europe. Cargo volumes are increasing, with the full-year total for 2026 also expected to exceed that of 2025. Since September 2026, the workforce has grown by around 200 direct and indirect employees.
