Poland considers reintroducing border checks with Germany
The Polish government is assessing the reintroduction of border checks with Germany, potentially to be implemented as early as summer 2025. The measure is driven by efforts to curb illegal immigration but risks worsening traffic conditions already hampered by German checks imposed since 2023, which have caused queues of up to 20 kilometres. According to the Polish press, neither the European Commission nor Berlin has yet been officially notified of the proposal.
Record container production in China in May
In May, container production in China reached record levels, with a total capacity of 1.55 million TEUs. According to data from consultancy firm Linerlytica, over 2.3 million new containers have already been produced in 2025. Despite rising freight rates and global port congestion, container availability is not currently a concern. Current production volumes exceed those of 2024, reducing the risk of a crisis similar to that of 2021, when output fell to just 100,000 TEUs.
