By summer, the second tube of the Frejus tunnel
By summer 2025, the second tube of the Frejus tunnel, a key Alpine crossing between Italy and France, will be open to traffic. The project aims to enhance safety and traffic flow through advanced technical solutions. On 26 May, a delegation from the council of the Province and Metropolitan City of Turin, including deputy mayor Jacopo Suppo, carried out an on-site inspection to assess the progress of the works. The tunnel has been managed by Astm, parent company of Sitaf, since 2020. The group has launched targeted investments to bring the infrastructure in line with European standards.
Alessandria freight terminal redevelopment
Work begins on transforming the Alessandria freight terminal, as Rfi has awarded the contract for the executive design and construction of the first phase of works. The tender, worth over 40 million euros, was won by a consortium led by Clf. The project includes technological and infrastructure upgrades, such as the installation of a new computerised interlocking system and electrification of the tracks. This forms part of the wider plan for the new freight terminal, which will feature 45-metre gantry cranes, 750-metre tracks, truck and container lanes, and a dedicated motorway junction on the A26.
Truck rest area in Astigarraga
A new truck rest area, named Astigarraga Norte, will be built in Astigarraga along Spain’s AP-8 motorway, just a few kilometres from the French border. As part of the Ten-T corridor, the site will cover 34,600 square metres and provide 152 parking spaces, two sanitation blocks, an underpass and direct access to the Cit service centre. The 18.6 million euro investment is being funded by the public entity Bidegi, with works scheduled to last 30 months. The area will meet the EU’s Gold Standard for security. With this new addition, the number of available spaces in the cross-border zone will rise to 677, spread across three adjacent sites.
Psa Bdp acquires majority stake in ED Forwarding in Mexico
Psa Bdp has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in ED Forwarding, a Mexican company specialising in logistics solutions. The move strengthens Psa Bdp’s regional presence in Mexico, a strategic market for cross-border logistics and customs services. Based in Mexico City, ED Forwarding has been active in the sector for years and has been a partner of Psa Bdp for over a decade. Clients will benefit from a broader logistics network, integrated services and improved operational efficiency. The deal is subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
