Dhl will invest more than 500 million euros in the Middle East
Dhl Group has announced an investment exceeding 500 million euros in the Middle East between 2024 and 2030, targeting the growing markets of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The initiative involves all divisions of the group – Express, Global Forwarding, Supply Chain and eCommerce – and aims to strengthen regional logistics infrastructure, support exports and enhance supply chain resilience. The investment is part of the company’s “Strategy 2030”, which focuses on growth areas and innovation, with particular emphasis on sustainability and the digital transformation of transport.
Container traffic on the rise at Gioia Tauro
The port of Gioia Tauro continues to show positive trends: between January and May 2025, 1,813,071 teu were handled at the MedCenter Container Terminal, marking a 10.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Following the approximately 4 million teu processed last year, projections point to another record year for Italy’s leading transhipment port. Rail traffic is also growing, with 20 weekly train pairs currently active towards Nola and Bologna. From September, 13 additional pairs will be added for Bari and Verona.
Raben Group expands into Turkey
Raben Group has announced the launch of its operations in Turkey, the 17th country in its European network. The new branch, Raben Türkiye, based in Istanbul, employs 20 people and operates a 2,000-square-metre cross-dock warehouse. The company will offer road, sea and air transport services, as well as warehousing solutions and customs assistance. Routes will connect key destinations such as Italy, Germany and Poland. The myRaben digital platform will ensure tracking and control.
Quay 23 upgrade at the port of Ancona
Works have been awarded for the consolidation and repair of quay 23 at the port of Ancona. The project, worth 11.8 million euros, forms part of a wider modernisation plan for the commercial dock. The works will be carried out by a temporary consortium led by Fincantieri Infrastructure Opere Marittime. The intervention includes resurfacing, structural reinforcement, dismantling and repositioning of rails and tracks, and preparations for future electrification. The upgrade will improve rail access to the quays and will be accompanied by basin dredging to enhance port operations.
Ceva completes electric truck trial in China
Ceva Logistics has completed a sustainable transport trial in China using an electric truck over a 5,000-kilometre route from Shenzhen to Alashankou. The vehicle, with a range of 680 km per charge, required only nine three-hour charging stops. Compared to diesel, the test showed a 54% reduction in CO2 emissions and a 43% drop in energy costs. The initiative follows a previous electric vehicle trial covering 1,725 km.
Durban receives the largest containership ever to dock at the port
The port of Durban has received the Msc Rifaya, the largest containership ever to call at the South African facility. Measuring 399.99 metres in length and with a capacity of 19,437 teu, the ship arrived unexpectedly for emergency repairs. According to Transnet, the state-owned logistics and port management company, the operation required the coordination of four tugboats and demonstrated the adequacy of the port’s infrastructure for accommodating large vessels. The event reinforces Durban’s standing in the global maritime sector.
