Liebherr Container Cranes is marking the 25th anniversary of its RTG (Rubber Tyred Gantry) launch by introducing a next-generation range comprising five models offering electric, hybrid and variable speed generator configurations. These are supported by advanced economic and performance modelling software. The new RTG line-up includes the Rtg-CB (electric with fixed conductor bar), Ertg-Crd (electric with cable reeling drum), Rtg-HC (hybrid with supercapacitors), Rtg-HB (hybrid with batteries), and Rtg-Vsg (powered by a variable speed generator).
A key feature of the new generation is the integration of proprietary Liebherr software capable of simulating energy scenarios and assessing fuel or power consumption based on a customer's real operational data. This enables a detailed economic analysis that factors in local conditions, helping to identify the most appropriate solution from both a technical and financial standpoint.
“Our new RTG range offers unprecedented flexibility,” said Charlie McCarthy, head of engineering at Liebherr Container Cranes. “The electric models ensure zero local emissions, while the hybrid options combine efficiency and sustainability with highly competitive payback times. With our Rtg Vsg, customers can also benefit from significant fuel savings compared to traditional diesel-powered solutions.” Looking ahead, the German company expects further developments in automation, energy efficiency and digital integration.
