The new eActros 400 expands the second generation of battery-electric heavy vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, alongside the eActros 600 for long-distance transport. Presented in Molsheim on 30 September 2025, this model is equipped with two battery packs of 207 kWh each, giving a total installed capacity of 414 kWh, which also defines its name.
The eActros 400 has been designed as an intermediate solution for regional and medium-haul transport, while still capable of covering significant distances on long-haul routes. According to the manufacturer, in its 6x2 box body configuration, with partial load and at an ambient temperature of 20°C, it can achieve a range of 480 kilometres. Unlike the eActros 600, which mounts three battery packs, the 400 has a lower tare weight, allowing for a higher payload: the maximum on the fifth wheel is 9.5 tonnes and, when combined with a standard semi-trailer, the payload exceeds 25 tonnes. The additional payload advantage compared to the eActros 600 is more than three tonnes, bringing the eActros 400 back in line with diesel models.
The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries used provide long life and more than 95% of usable capacity. The in-house developed 800-volt architecture improves efficiency and performance of the electric drive. Charging is via CCS2 plug with a maximum output of 400 kW: for the two battery packs, around 46 minutes are required to charge from 10% to 80%. Alternatively, a second connector can be requested on the opposite side of the vehicle for greater operational flexibility.
In terms of configuration, the eActros 400 will be available both as a tractor unit and as a rigid chassis, with different wheelbase and axle options. The cab can be chosen in the traditional L version with low entry or in the ProCabin version, featuring improved aerodynamics and enhanced comfort solutions. The driver’s workplace is fitted with the new Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 and a full suite of driver assistance systems, including those already introduced on the eActros 600. Orders for the eActros 400 open in October 2025.
