Measures introduced by the Spanish government to reduce payment times for road haulage services are showing continued improvements. In September 2026, the average payment period for Spanish hauliers fell to 47 days, the lowest figure on record. The data was released on 26 October by the trade association Fenadismer, which produces the monthly Observatorio permanente de la morosidad y los pagos en el sector del transporte por carretera en España in collaboration with the Fundación Quijote para el Transporte. The previous month, the average stood at 52 days. The September survey also provides an update on the payment methods used for transport services: bank transfers accounted for 76%, confirming arrangements for 19%, promissory notes for 5% and cheques for less than 1%.
The proportion of customers and intermediaries exceeding the maximum payment period of 60 days fell from 38% in August to 34%. Among those failing to meet the deadline, 80% paid within 60 to 90 days, compared with 76% the previous month, while the proportion taking more than 120 days fell from 6% to 4%. Every month surveyed in 2026 up to September recorded average payment times below 60 days, the federation noted. For historical comparison, Fenadismer points to averages of 83 days in 2021 and 59 days in 2025. The association attributes the improvement to the penalty regime targeting late payments in road haulage, introduced at the end of 2021, and enforcement inspections carried out by national and regional authorities.
