Italian haulier Fertrans has acquired 120 new Actros L ProCabin trucks at the Daimler Truck Retail Italia headquarters in Piacenza. According to Daimler Truck Italia, which coordinated the operation together with the Retail network, the decision to purchase such a large batch stems from a clear corporate strategy focused on technical uniformity, an approach that for Fertrans translates into predictable costs, better planning of activities and greater reliability on international routes.
Fleet standardisation is one of the cornerstones of the company’s development. It operates on high-mileage corridors where process standardisation and continuity of after-sales services are key competitive factors. According to Maurizio Pompei, chief executive of Daimler Truck Italia, the delivery forms part of a broader cooperation framework that includes technological support, assistance services and solutions geared towards the digitalisation of operational management, areas in which customer demand is steadily increasing.
Active since 1953, Fertrans has gradually evolved its logistics model while maintaining a strong presence in international road transport and expanding its service portfolio towards integrated logistics. The operational bases in Italy, in Alseno in the province of Piacenza, and in Spain, in Lleida, are two central nodes of a network that today manages 1,124 vehicles, 57 million kilometres travelled each year, 9,731 ferry crossings and 7,122 rail transits, figures reported by the company in its institutional profiles. Turnover exceeds 84 million euros, confirming the company’s position among the most structured operators in the sector.
The company has also developed specialised expertise in niche areas such as cross-border transport of solid waste, a segment in which it is recognised as one of the most experienced operators, and in steel transport. Another area of development concerns industrial rental, with Fertrans Rent active since 2010 offering full-service solutions. The service provides fast procedures, fixed monthly costs, flexible durations ranging from one day to ten years and complete vehicle management, from maintenance to insurance. The company lists operational continuity with a replacement vehicle when necessary and the option of pre-assignment as central elements, aspects that help ensure the regularity of flows for professional customers.
The purchase of the 120 Actros L ProCabin vehicles therefore plays a functional role in strengthening this operational architecture. The choice of a single platform enables the company to distribute maintenance more efficiently, stabilise costs and streamline fleet management, particularly on international routes characterised by high mileage. The adoption of updated Euro VI engines also contributes to its environmental commitment, an area in which Fertrans has obtained its Esg rating for the second consecutive year.
