A significant development for the industrial trailer sector was unveiled at the Transport Logistic event in Munich: the partnership between Berger Fahrzeugtechnik and Schmitz Cargobull for the development of new semi-trailers, which has already led to the launch of the new Evolution generation, presented at the Bavarian event. The debut came with the PerformanceCoil, a curtainsider semi-trailer designed for the transport of coils. This vehicle combines the ultra-light Bergerecotrail chassis with a Schmitz Cargobull body. The result is a trailer designed to increase payload capacity, reduce fuel consumption and help cut atmospheric emissions.
With an unladen weight of just 4.8 tonnes, the PerformanceCoil offers a payload capacity of up to 27.5 tonnes. “We’ve brought together the best of both worlds: our expertise in lightweight chassis with the bodywork of the market leader,” said the co-founder of Berger, who has entrusted the reins of innovation to Oliver Hoffmann, former technical director at Audi and now a key figure in the Austrian company’s technological strategy.
Designed for the transport of steel and metal coils, the PerformanceCoil is equipped with a coil trough measuring 8,200 mm. The chassis, made of high-strength S700 steel, is the result of precision welding processes that ensure both structural stability and reduced weight. The Power Curtain bodywork is free of side slats and features reinforced, anti-theft tarpaulins.
This solution, compliant with Din EN 12642 XL standards, facilitates loading and unloading operations, shortens downtime and enhances safety without compromising the rigidity of the vehicle. It offers a competitive advantage for companies operating in complex sectors such as automotive, food, chemical and agriculture, where versatility and specific certifications are essential.
The Evolution range goes beyond coil transport. New models, designed for the transport of pallets, construction materials and bulky goods, share the same lightweight modular architecture, delivering tangible benefits across every segment of the logistics chain. The entire platform is integrated with the TrailerConnect telematics system, already known for its advanced tracking, remote diagnostics and fleet management features. Completing the offer is a widespread European service network and customisable financial solutions designed to meet the needs of the most demanding customers.
