According to data released by Assaeroporti, Italian airports surpassed the one-million-tonne mark by the end of October 2024, with a total of 1,044,388 tonnes moved. This represents a 16.9% increase over the same period in the previous year. Malpensa remains firmly at the top, handling 606,364 tonnes, with a 9.7% rise in activity. Following Malpensa is the Lazio-based Fiumicino airport, which saw an impressive growth of 49.3%, reaching 230,761 tonnes. Other airports lag considerably behind, underlining the polarisation of air cargo transport between Milan and Rome. Venice handled 53,000 tonnes (+33.2%), Bologna 47,554 tonnes (+11.5%), and Brescia 31,408 tonnes (+10.8%). Bergamo also experienced growth (+10.4%), reaching 19,195 tonnes.
