MSC completes acquisition of AlisCargo Airlines

The MSC Group has finalized its takeover of the Italian airline AlisCargo Airlines. Through its subsidiary Shipping Agencies Services, MSC acquired the remaining shares, gaining full ownership of the airline. The airline is also in the process of obtaining certification for the transport of pharmaceutical products.

Freight trains start moving on the India-Uzbekistan route

Around 20 containers carrying ceramic goods have been shipped from the port of Bandar Abbas to Sarakhs, eventually reaching the Chukursai railway station in Uzbekistan. This development follows a series of meetings in December 2023 between representatives of "Uzbekistan Temir Yullari" JSC and the "Turkmendemiryollary" agency in Istanbul, where the acceleration of container train transit through Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan and back was planned. Special tariffs for container transportation across the territories were also agreed upon.

Cars transported by train from the Port of Savona

In July, a new rail connection was launched from the port of Savona to Arena Po (in the province of Pavia) to transport vehicles arriving at the Ligurian port by car carriers. At the dock, Marittima Spedizioni and Savona Terminal Auto unload the cars from ships coming from Spain, Germany, and Portugal, then load them onto car carriers. Sitfa and Mercitalia Rail manage the rail transportation. The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority states that 48,000 vehicles will be transported this way.

Medway, the railway company controlled by the MSC Group, has opened the Sines Raquete intermodal terminal near the port of Sines in Portugal, enhancing container transport within the Iberian Peninsula. The facility covers an area of 22,000 square meters and has 470 meters of track. It can handle two trains per day with a capacity of 600 TEU.

Poste and Eni sign agreement for biofuels

On August 1, 2024, Poste Italiane signed an agreement with Enilive for the use of biofuels, accelerating the energy transition and reducing carbon footprint. The collaboration includes the adoption of HVOlution for ground vehicles and Eni Biojet for flights, contributing to the decarbonization of transport. This strategic step is part of Poste Italiane's plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, ahead of European targets.
