Lithium battery transport between China and Turkey
Ten Chinese trucks transported lithium batteries over 7,000 kilometres in three weeks, crossing the Alashankou border (China) to Kazakhstan's Aktau port, then traversing the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan and reaching Turkey via Georgia. This pilot transport marks the first shipment of lithium batteries from China to Turkey using the Trans-Caspian corridor under the TIR system, significantly reducing delivery times. The route offers faster transit compared to the 30–40 days required by sea, while the TIR system minimises delays, damage, and transfer times, covering the entire journey with a single carnet. Collaboration between China and Kazakhstan is expected to further enhance the corridor, making it a vital option for global trade.
